Hmm... watching the first episode again. I missed the fact that Eliza Dushku's character was name Caroline, and that while she volunteered to become a Doll, she signed a contract for 5 years - after which she'd be free and clear. What I'm really wondering about, is what would she be free and clear of?

She said, "I don't deserve this. I was just trying to make a difference. Trying to take my place in the world, like she always said. And now..."

So what did she do that apparently turned out so wrong? And who is the 'she' Caroline was talking about?

Knowing Joss Whedon, we'll find out eventually, but I have a feeling it'll be a while before he reveals the backstory of Caroline.
Any ideas out there?
